Chart music information to boost your mood

In 2023, determining the "best" song can be quite subjective and varies widely based on personal taste, trends, and cultural influences. However, some songs that have gained significant popularity or critical acclaim in 2023 could include tracks from various genres like pop, hip-hop, electronic, or indie music.

If you're looking for recommendations, considering the charts, streaming platforms, or music award nominations could give you an idea of what songs are currently making waves. Popular artists like Billie Eilish, Drake, Olivia Rodrigo, Kanye West, or newcomers breaking into the scene might have songs that stand out in this year.

Chart positions and the "best" song can vary based on different platforms, regions, and even weeks within a year.

For the most current chart-topping songs in 2023, I'd recommend checking reputable music charts like Billboard Hot 100, Spotify's Top Charts, Apple Music, or other regional charts regularly updated to reflect the latest music trends and rankings. These platforms usually showcase the most popular and trending songs at any given time.

For the most up-to-date and accurate information regarding British songs topping the charts in 2023, I'd recommend checking official music charts such as the UK Singles Chart or platforms like BBC Radio 1, Official Charts Company, or streaming services like Spotify or Apple Music. These sources regularly update their charts to reflect the latest popular music in the UK.

Several websites are dedicated to showcasing and exploring music from around the world. Here are a few that you might find helpful:

1. Pitchfork: Known for in-depth music reviews, articles, and top album lists covering a wide range of genres.

2. Rolling Stone: Offers music news, reviews, and charts, along with lists of top albums and songs.

3. NME (New Musical Express): Features music news, reviews, interviews, and charts focusing on a diverse range of artists and genres.

4. AllMusic: Provides comprehensive information about artists, albums, and songs, along with recommendations and reviews.

5. Spotify and Apple Music: Music streaming platforms that curate playlists, charts, and recommendations based on your preferences.

Exploring these platforms can give you access to a wealth of information, reviews, and recommendations about music from various parts of the world.

Creating an online presence through social media and streaming platforms can also help showcase your talent and reach a wider audience. Keep evolving, experimenting with different genres, and staying updated with the latest trends in music and technology.

There are several user-friendly applications and software available for creating DJ songs. Some popular ones include:

1. Virtual DJ: Known for its intuitive interface and broad feature set.

2. Serato DJ: Popular among DJs for its reliability and compatibility with various hardware.

3. Traktor Pro:Offers advanced features for both beginners and professionals.

4. Mixxx: Free and open-source software suitable for beginners.

5. Cross DJ: User-friendly interface with various features for mixing tracks.

These options vary in complexity and features, so it's a good idea to explore them based on your skill level and the specific functionalities you're looking for. Many of them offer free trials or versions with limited features that you can try before making a commitment.

To start playing on a turntable, here are some steps:

1. Get the Right Equipment: You'll need a turntable, mixer, and headphones. Choose quality gear within your budget.

2. Learn the Basics: Understand how to set up your turntable, adjust speeds, and cue tracks. Learn about pitch control, tonearms, and stylus care.

3. Get Vinyl Records: Start with a collection of vinyl records across different genres. This will give you material to practice and experiment with.

4. Practice Cueing and Mixing: Practice cueing tracks, matching beats, and smoothly transitioning between songs. It's crucial for seamless DJ sets.

7. Networking and Gigs: Attend events, connect with other DJs, and look for opportunities to perform. Starting at local events or small venues can be a great way to gain experience.

Starting with the basics and dedicating time to practice regularly will help you improve your skills and confidence on the turntable.

For beginners, a good entry-level turntable to consider is the Audio-Technica AT-LP120XUSB. It offers quality features like a direct-drive motor, adjustable pitch control, and a USB output for digitizing your vinyl collection. Another popular option is the Pioneer PLX-500, known for its solid build and decent performance at an affordable price. Both of these turntables provide a good balance between quality and price, making them suitable choices for someone starting their journey into DJing.

You can buy turntables both online and offline.

Online: Websites like Amazon, eBay, Sweetwater, B&H Photo, and manufacturer websites are great places to find turntables. Look for reputable sellers with good reviews and check for any additional accessories or bundles that might be available.

Offline: Visit music instrument stores, electronic stores, or specialized DJ equipment retailers in your area. They often have a variety of turntables on display, allowing you to see and sometimes even test them before purchasing.

Whether online or offline, compare prices, check return policies, and consider factors like shipping costs, warranties, and customer reviews to make an informed decision.

To become a great DJ:

1. Master Your Craft: Practice regularly to improve your mixing, scratching, and beat matching skills. The more you practice, the more confident and versatile you'll become.

2. Know Your Music: Understand different genres, eras, and styles. Knowing your music well helps you create diverse and engaging sets.

3. Develop Your Style: Experiment with various techniques and find your unique sound. A distinctive style sets you apart from others.

4. Technology Mastery: Stay updated on the latest DJ software and hardware. Knowing how to use technology to enhance your sets is crucial.

5. Read the Crowd: Learn to gauge the audience's energy and adjust your set accordingly. A great DJ knows how to keep the crowd engaged.

6. Network and Collaborate: Connect with other DJs, event organizers, and music enthusiasts. Collaborations and networking can lead to more opportunities.

7. Stay Humble and Learn: Even seasoned DJs keep learning. Stay open to new trends, techniques, and constructive criticism to continuously improve.

Remember, becoming a great DJ takes time, dedication, and a genuine passion for music and performance.

Pengertian Musik Menurut Para Ahli

  • Jamalus (1988, 1)

Sehubungan dengan itu ia mengatakan: “Without music, life would be an error.”

3. Menentukan struktur lagu

Struktur lagu dibedakan menjadi beberapa bentuk yaitu :

The song I like the most

The first time I listened to this song changed my feelings towards everyone in the world. I feel there are still people who have good hearts and not all of them are evil.

Artist: Mumford & Sons
Album: Delta
Delta was released on 16 November 2018, with appearances from Maggie Rogers, Yebba, and Gill Landry. The LP was produced by Paul Epworth, and was recorded mainly at The Church Studios in London.

Lyrics
I know I've had you troubled
And I know I've seared your mind
But you know that I love you
And that our love's not blind
I'm sure my dreams lie with you
But I've many more besides
And if I can't see them through
Our love will slowly die
So if you doubt for the time that you're spending
And if you doubt for the love in your heart
Think of London and the girl you're returning
And the days you defend will turn to gold
So love with your eyes
Love with your mind
Love with your, dare I say forever
Do it for yourself
Do it for the girl
Do it for your, dare I say forever
And I've known pious women
Who have lead such secret lives
Shameless in the dark, so shameful in the light
And you may not be pious and I may not be saved
But we could live quite happily and quietly unfazed
So if you doubt for the time that you're spending
And if you doubt for the love in your heart
Think of London and the girl you're returning
And the days you defend will turn to gold
So love with your eyes
Love with your mind
Love with your, dare I say forever
Do it for yourself
Do it for the girl
Do it for your, dare I say forever
I was dreaming of the Liffey
I was thinking of the Thames
And now the east river flows by to the same end
Are we too sentimental to not look back and stare?
So love with your eyes
Love with your mind
Love with your, dare I say forever
Do it for yourself
Do it for the girl
Do it for your, dare I say forever

Mumford & Sons are a British folk rockband formed in 2007. The band consists of Marcus Mumford (lead vocals, electric guitar, acoustic guitar, drums), Ben Lovett(vocals, keyboard, piano, synthesizer), Winston Marshall (vocals, electric guitar, banjo) and Ted Dwane (vocals, bass guitar, double bass).
Mumford & Sons have been described by The Hollywood Reporter and Forbes as a folk rock band. They began by using bluegrass and folk instrumentation, with the core instruments of acoustic guitar, banjo, piano and a double bass, played with a rhythmic style based in alternative rock and folk. In the documentary Big Easy Express, Marcus Mumford recognises the Old Crow Medicine Show influence: "I first heard Old Crow’s music when I was, like, 16, 17, and that really got me into, like, folk music, bluegrass. I mean, I’d listened to a lot of Dylan, but I hadn’t really ventured into the country world so much. So Old Crow were the band that made me fall in love with country music. Mumford acknowledges that "the band inspired them to pick up the banjo and start their now famous country nights in London." Ketch Secor, Old Crow front-man, concurs: "Those boys took the message and ran with it.

Biography

Inspired by folk, rock, country, and bluegrass, the London-based, platinum-selling Mumford & Sons feature singer/guitarist/drummer Marcus Mumford, vocalist and banjo/Dobro player Winston Marshall, vocalist/keyboardist Ben Lovett, and vocalist/bassist Ted Dwane. The foursome started playing together in 2007; though they were playing with other bands at the time, they bonded over their shared love of rootsy music. Mumford & Sons quickly became a part of London's underground folk scene, which included acts like Laura Marling and Noah and the Whale. By late autumn 2007, the band was writing songs and playing shows frequently, leading to a gig at 2008's Glastonbury Festival. That June, their self-titled debut EP arrived, followed by the Love Your Ground EP that December.
In May 2009, the Cave and the Open Sea EP was released; meanwhile, Mumford & Sons signed to Island Records and worked with producer Markus Dravs (the Arcade Fire, Maccabees) on their first full-length. That summer, the single "Little Lion Man" became the first taste of their new material; it was named Hottest Record in the World This Week by BBC 1 Radio DJ Zane Lowe in July. The group was shortlisted for the BBC's Sound of 2009 Poll shortly before its debut album, Sigh No More, was released that winter. It was issued a year later in America on the Glassnote Records label and sold over a million copies between the two countries. The group's second studio album, the much anticipated Babel, arrived in September 2012. The album would become a commercial hit, topping the Billboard charts before going platinum in the U.S. and receiving a Grammy Award for Album of the Year.
Recorded live over two nights at Colorado's legendary Red Rocks Amphitheatre, the band's first live film/recording, Road to Red Rocks, followed in late 2012, but after wrapping up their international tour in support of Babel, the group members announced that they would be going on an indefinite hiatus. In early 2015 the band announced both a return to the stage and plans to release a new album. The resulting James Ford-produced Wilder Mind, the group's third studio long-player, arrived in early May of that year.

Sigur Rós

Sigur Rós (Icelandic pronunciation: [ˈsɪːɣʏr ˈroːus]  is an ambient/post-rock band from ReykjavíkIceland, who have been active since 1994. Known for its ethereal sound, frontman Jónsi Birgisson's falsetto vocals, and the use of bowed guitar, the band's music is also noticeable for its incorporation of classical and minimalist aesthetic elements. The band is named after Jónsi's sister Sigurrós.

  • Jón Þór "Jónsi" Birgisson – lead vocals, guitars, bowed guitar, keyboards, harmonica, banjo, bass guitar (since 1994)
  • Georg "Goggi" Hólm – bass guitar, glockenspiel, toy piano, keyboards, backing vocals (since 1994)
  • Orri Páll Dýrason – drums, percussion, samples, keyboards (since 1999)
  • Kjartan "Kjarri" Sveinsson – synthesizers, keyboards, piano, organs, programming, guitars, flute, tin whistle, oboe, banjo, backing vocals (since 1998)

Former members

  • Ágúst Ævar Gunnarsson – drums, percussion (1994–1999)

Touring members

  • Ólafur Björn Ólafsson – keyboard, oboe (2012-present)
  • Kjartan Dagur Hólm – guitar (2012-present)

On 28 May 2009, Sigur Rós announced that they had almost completed recording their latest album. The band said the album was taking form as a slower and more ambient record than both Með suð í eyrum við spilum endalaust and Takk.... The music was also described as melodic but much less noisy and more "out there" than previous albums. The unnamed album was expected to be released sometime in 2010. However, the band later revealed that the recordings had been scrapped. In a 2010 interview, Jónsiconfirmed "We haven't got another album ready", he said. "It was just a rumour. We started to record something, but then we chucked it all away. So I think we are going to have to start it all again". Without further word on the new album, Sigur Rós were rumoured to be on indefinite hiatus as of January 2010. However, before taking the stage at Coachella in April 2010, Jónsi commented that Sigur Rós would be getting back to work that year: "I'm gonna record some other stuff with Sigur Rós when I'm home", between a series of shows during his solo tour in summer 2010. On 1 February 2011, Jónsi's official website announced that he would be back in the studio with the band over the spring.
On 11 August 2011 Sigur Rós's official website unveiled a trailer for a project called Inni, a DVD and double CD of the band's live performances in London, directed by Vincent Morisset. It was screened at the 68th Venice International Film Festival, and saw official release in November 2011. On 16 September 2011, the Inni album and live video became available to pre-order from the band's site in a variety of formats. Additionally, the band made the video for the song "Festival" available to watch online, as well as offering a free download of the audio from a live performance of the song.
On 3 November 2011, following the UK premiere of Inni at the British Film Institute in London, the band members participated in a Q&A session during which Georg promised that 2012 would be a "very busy" year for Sigur Rós. The band hinted at a new album and tour in the second half of 2012. The Q&A session was curtailed when a stage light began to emit smoke and the room was evacuated.
"The band's next album is scheduled for release in the spring. Based on excerpts presented by Mr. Sveinsson, the new music promises to be as exceptional as the best of the band's catalog. Mr. Hólm called it "introverted", while Mr. Birgisson said it was "floaty and minimal". "An ambient album" was how Mr. Dýrason described it, with "a slow takeoff toward something". For a visitor who heard a preliminary recording in which Mr. Birgisson's falsetto was surrounded by rich choral voices and what sounded like a pipe organ, the music was thrilling".
In February 2012, Sigur Rós announced their live return with festival appearances at Bestival in England, Summer Sonic Festival in Japan, and other shows in Ireland, Switzerland, Germany, Austria, France, Poland, and Italy. The band was also added toMontréal's Osheaga 2012 lineup, and the 2012 Lollapalooza lineup.
An interview with the band in the March 2012 issue of Q magazine confirmed the completion of a new album, titled Valtari and scheduled for release on 28 May 2012. On 26 March 2012, the band released the first official single from the album, "Ekki Múkk."On 14 April 2012, a lower quality version of the complete album leaked out on the internet. On 10 May 2012, Sigur Rós's new track "Dauðalogn" was premiered on "The Departed", the season 3 finale of The Vampire Diaries.
It was rumored that an already-complete additional album would follow-up their sixth release, Valtari. However, the band has dismissed the rumor as a "fabrication".
On 2 November 2012, Georg Hólm confirmed that the band had already started work on a new album, due to be released some time in 2013. He described it as a dramatic change of direction, "an anti-Valtari". The band performed a new song, entitled "Brennisteinn" ('brimstone'), in Reykjavik on 4 November at the Iceland Airwaves 2012 festival, to favourable reception. On 12 November 2012, the band announced a new North American tour, to take place in March and April 2013. The band also announced that every ticket purchased will include a new digital copy of a three-track EP, containing new and unreleased music, made available to ticket holders on 22 March 2013.

Vonlenska

Vonlenska is the non-literal language that forms the unintelligible lyrics sung by the band,Jónsi in particular. It is also commonly known by the English translation of its name, Hopelandic. It takes its name from "Von", a song on Sigur Rós’s debut album Von where it was first used.
Vonlenska has no fixed syntax and differs from constructed languages that can be used for communication. It focuses entirely on the sounds of language; lacking grammar, meaning, and even distinct words. Instead, it consists of emotive non-lexical vocables andphonemes; in effect, Vonlenska uses the melodic and rhythmic elements of singing without the conceptual content of language. In this way, it is similar to the use of scat singing in vocal jazz. The band's website describes it as "a form of gibberish vocals that fits to the music";it is similar in concept to the 'nonsense' language often used by Cocteau Twins singer Elizabeth Fraser in the 1980s and 1990s. Most of the syllable strings sung by Jónsi are repeated many times throughout each song, and in the case of ( ), throughout the whole album.

How amazing creativity such as the band name Sigur Ros conpets of performence. I can give some ticket prediction on february 2013.

Sarah Jezebel Deva joined the band in 1996.
Cradle of Filth are an English extreme metal band that formed in Suffolk, England in 1991. The band's musical style evolved from black metal to a cleaner and more "produced" amalgam of gothic metal, symphonic black metal and other extreme metal styles. Their lyrical themes and imagery are heavily influenced by gothic literature, poetry, mythology and horror films.
The band has broken free from its original niche by courting mainstream publicity (often to the chagrin of its early fanbase). This increased accessibility has brought coverage from the likes of Kerrang! and MTV, along with frequent main stage appearances at major festivals such as Ozzfest, Download, and even the mainstream Sziget Festival. This has given the band a more "commercial" image. They have sometimes been perceived as Satanic by casual observers, even though their outright lyrical references to Satanism are few and far between. Their use of satanic imagery has arguably always been more for shock value, rather than any seriously held beliefs.

Early years (1991–1996)

Dani Filth, 2008.
Cradle of Filth's first three years saw three demos (Invoking the Unclean, Orgiastic Pleasures Foul and Total Fucking Darkness) recorded amidst the sort of rapid line-up fluctuations that have continued ever since, the band having more than twenty musicians in its history. An album entitled Goetia was recorded prior to the third demo and set for release on Tombstone Records, but all tracks were wiped when Tombstone went out of business and could not afford to buy the recordings from the studio. The band eventually signed to Cacophonous Records and their debut album, The Principle of Evil Made Flesh, was also Cacophonous's first release in 1994. A step-up in terms of production from the rehearsal quality of most of their demos, the album was still nevertheless a sparse and embryonic version of what was to come, with lead singer Dani Filth's vocals in particular bearing little similarity to the style he was later to develop. The album was well-received however, and as recently as June 2006 found its way into Metal Hammer's list of the top ten black metal albums of the last twenty years.
Cradle's relationship with Cacophonous soon soured; the band accusing the label of contractual and financial mismanagement. Acrimonious legal proceedings took up most of 1995, and the band finally signed to Music for Nations in 1996 after only one more contractually obligated Cacophonous recording: the EP V Empire (Or Dark Faerytales in Phallustein) which, it has since been conceded, was hastily written as a Cacophonous escape-plan Despite the circumstances of its release however, its handful of tracks are staples of the band's live sets to this day, and "Queen of Winter, Throned" was listed among twenty-five "essential extreme metal anthems" in a 2006 issue of Kerrang! magazine. The EP also marked Sarah Jezebel Deva's debut with the band, replacing Andrea Meyer, Cradle's first female vocalist and self-styled "satanic advisor". Deva appeared on every subsequent Cradle release and tour until Darkly, Darkly, Venus Aversa, but was never considered a full band member, since she also performed with The Kovenant, Therion and Mortiis, and fronted her own Angtoria project along with Cradle's current bass player, Dave Pybus.

Music for Nations era (1996–2001)

Dusk... and Her Embrace followed the same year: a critically acclaimed breakthrough album that greatly expanded the band's fan-base throughout Europe and the rest of the world. A concept album of sorts based generally on vampirism and specifically (though loosely) on the writing of Sheridan Le Fanu, Cradle's inaugural album for Music for Nations set the tone for what was to follow. The album's production values matched the band's ambition for the first time, whilst Dani's vocal gymnastics were at their most extreme.
The increasingly theatrical stage shows of the 1997 European tour helped keep Cradle in the public eye, as did a burgeoning line of controversial merchandise; not least the notorious T-shirt depicting a masturbating nun on the front and the slogan "Jesus is a cunt" in large letters on the back. The T-shirt is banned in New Zealand, a handful of fans have faced court appearances and fines for wearing the shirt in public, and some band members themselves attracted a certain amount of hostile attention when they wore similar "I Love Satan" shirts to the Vatican. Alex Mosson, the Lord Provost of Glasgow from 1999 to 2003, called the shirts (and by implication the band) "sick and offensive". The band obviously approved, using the quote on the back cover of the 2005 DVD Peace Through Superior Firepower.

The infamous "Vestal Masturbation" T-shirt design.
In 1998, Dani began his long-running "Dani's Inferno" column for Metal Hammer, and the band appeared in the BBC documentary series Living with the Enemy (on tour with a fan and his disapproving mother and sister) and released its third full-length album Cruelty and the Beast. A fully realised concept album based on the legend of the "Blood Countess" Elizabeth Báthory, the album boasted the casting coup of Ingrid Pitt providing guest narration as the Countess: a role she first played in Hammer's 1971 film Countess Dracula. The album led to Cradle's U.S debut, and Dani claimed it in 2003 as the Cradle album of which he was most proud, although he conceded dissatisfaction with its sound quality.

Paul Allender left the band late in 1994, but rejoined in 2000 for Midian.
The following year the band continued primarily to tour, but did release its first music video, PanDaemonAeon, and an accompanying EP, From the Cradle to Enslave, featuring the music from the production. Replete with graphic nudity and gore, the video was directed by Alex Chandon, who would go on to produce further Cradle promo clips and DVD documentaries, as well as the full-length feature film Cradle of Fear.
The band released their fourth full-length studio album on the Halloween of 2000. Midian was based around the Clive Barker novel Cabal and its subsequent film adaptation Nightbreed. Like Cruelty and the Beast, Midian featured a guest narrator, this time Doug Bradley, who starred in Nightbreed but remains best known for playing Pinhead in the Hellraiser films. Bradley's line "Oh, no tears please" from the song "Her Ghost in the Fog" is a quote of Pinhead's from the first Hellraiser ("No tears, please. It's a waste of good suffering...") and Bradley would reappear on later albums Nymphetamine, Thornography, and Godspeed on the Devil's Thunder. The video for "Her Ghost in the Fog" received heavy rotation on MTV2 and other metal channels, and the track also found its way onto the soundtrack of the werewolf movie Ginger Snaps (it would also feature, much later, in the video game Brütal Legend).

Sony interlude (2001–2004)

The longest-ever interim period between full-length Cradle albums was nevertheless a busy time for the band. Bitter Suites to Succubi was released on the band's own "Abracadaver" label, and was a mixture of four new songs, re-recordings of three songs from The Principle of Evil Made Flesh, two instrumental tracks and a cover of The Sisters of Mercy's "No Time to Cry". Stylistically similar to Midian, the album is unique among Cradle albums in featuring exactly the same band members as its predecessor, but is generally regarded as an EP and often overlooked in the band's canon. Further stop-gap releases followed in the form of the "best of" package Lovecraft & Witch Hearts and a live album, Live Bait for the Dead. Finally, the band (principally Dani) also found time to appear in Cradle of Fear while they negotiated their first major-label signing with Sony Music. Damnation and a Day arrived in 2003; Sony's heavyweight funding underwriting Cradle's undiminished ambition by finally bringing a real orchestra into the studio (the 80-strong Budapest Film Orchestra and Choir replacing the increasingly sophisticated synthesizers of previous albums) and thus marking the band's belated gestation — for one album only — into full-blown symphonic metal. Damnation featured the band's most complex compositions to date, outran its predecessors by a good twenty minutes, and produced two more popular videos: the Švankmajer-influenced Mannequin, and Babalon A.D. (So Glad for the Madness), based on Pasolini's infamous Salò. Roughly half the album trod the conceptual territory of John Milton's Paradise Lost — showing the events of the Fall of Man through the eyes of Lucifer— while the remainder comprised stand-alone tracks such as the Nile tribute "Doberman Pharaoh" and the aforementioned "Babalon A.D."; a reference to Aleister Crowley. "Babalon A.D." was the first DVD-only single to reach the U.K. top 40, according to the Guinness Book of Records of British Hit Singles and Albums. Feeling that Sony's enthusiasm quickly palled however, Cradle jumped ship to Roadrunner Records after barely a year.

Move to Roadrunner (2004–2010)

2004's Nymphetamine was the band's first full album since The Principle of Evil Made Flesh to not be based around any sort of overarching concept (although references to the works of H. P. Lovecraft are made more than once). Cradle's bassist Dave Pybus described it as an "eclectic mix between the group's Damnation and Cruelty albums with a renewed vigour for melody, songmanship [sic] and plain fucking weirdness." Nymphetamine debuted at No. 89 on the Billboard Top 200 chart selling just under 14,000 copies, and the band's growing acceptance by the mainstream was confirmed when the album's title track was nominated for a Grammy award.
Thornography, was released in October 2006. According to Dani Filth, the title "represents mankind's obsession with sin and self... an addiction to self-punishment or something equally poisonous... a mania." On the subject of the album's musical direction, Filth told Revolver magazine, "I'm not saying it's 'experimental', but we're definitely testing the limits of what we can do... A lot of the songs are really rhythmical – thrashy, almost — but they're all also really catchy." A flurry of pre-release controversy saw Samuel Araya's original cover artwork scrapped and replaced in May 2006, although numerous CD booklets had already been printed with the original image. Thornography received a similar reception to Nymphetamine, garnering generally positive reviews, but raising a few eyebrows with the inclusion of a cover of Heaven 17's "Temptation" (featuring guest vocals from Dirty Hary), which was released as a digital single and accompanying video shortly before the album. Thornography entered the Billboard chart at No. 66, having sold nearly 13,000 copies.
Long-term drummer Adrian Erlandsson departed the band in November 2006, with the intention of devoting his energies to his two side projects Needleye and Nemhain. The official press release from Roadrunner saw Erlandsson state "I have enjoyed my time with Cradle but it is now time to move on. I feel I am going out on a high as Thornography is definitely our best album to date". He was replaced by Martin Škaroupka.

Drummer Martin Škaroupka replaced Adrian Erlandsson for Godspeed on the Devil's Thunder
Work on the eighth studio album, released in October 2008 as Godspeed on the Devil's Thunder, began early that year following a GWAR-supported tour which took place in Russia, the Ukraine, the UK, Romania, Slovakia and North America. Godspeed was a concept album based around the legend of Gilles de Rais, a 15th-century French nobleman who fought alongside Joan of Arc and accumulated great wealth before becoming a satanist, sexual deviant and murderer. Kerrang! preferred the album to the "relatively weak" Thornography, calling it "grandiose and epic", while Metal Hammer said it had "genuine narrative depth and emotional resonance", and Terrorizer called it "cohesive, consistent and convincing". It sold 11,000 copies in its week of release, entering the Billboard 200 at No. 48.

Peaceville Records (2010–present)

Cradle of Filth performing live at Metaltown Festival in June 2011
Cradle's relationship with Roadrunner came to an end in April 2010, with the announcement that the band's next album would be released by the British independent label Peaceville Records, using Cradle's own Abracadaver imprint. Dani Filth cited "the artistic restrictions and mindless inhibitions imposed by a major label" as the band's reason for going independent. Early press releases named the new album All Hallows Eve, but by August 2010 the title was confirmed as Darkly, Darkly, Venus Aversa. Released on November 1, 2010, it is a concept album in the same vein as its predecessor, Godspeed on the Devil's Thunder; this time centering on the demon Lilith, the first wife of the Biblical Adam, and also making reference to Greek, Egyptian and Sumerian mythology, the Knights Templar and the Carmelite Nuns. The label referred to it as "a dark tapestry of horror, madness and twisted sex", while Filth called its sound "creepily melodic, like Mercyful Fate or a dark Iron Maiden". Metal Hammer's Dom Lawson felt it was "another sumptuous and spectacular eruption of gothic melodrama, perverted sonic schlock and balls-out extreme metal bombast", and likened it to an "instalment in an ongoing series of novels."
An EP entitled Evermore Darkly, featuring "new tracks and rarities", was released in October 2011. The package included a DVD with a tour documentary, live DVD recorded at 2011's Graspop festival, and the video for "Lilith Immaculate".
In April 2012, the compilation album Midnight in the Labyrinth was released, featuring orchestral re-recordings of songs from the band's first three albums plus the V Empire EP. Dani Filth had described it in the preceding months as "reinventing" the tracks as "full soundtrack quality stuff... with choirs, strings and some narration". This album's version of "Summer Dying Fast" was included on Evermore Darkly as a teaser for the full release, and "A Gothic Romance (Red Roses for the Devil's Whore)" was released online via Peaceville Records' website on April 4. Sarah Jezebel Deva returned to provide female vocals for Midnight in the Labyrinth: her first work with Cradle since her departure in 2008.
A new studio album is in preparation. Paul Allender told Ultimate Guitar that "The last thing we want to do is come out with another album that sounds like the last two. We decided to change direction and go back to what we used to do with the female vocals; all the strong melody lines and harmonies... I've put a lot of punk orientated riffs back into it again. It's really gone quite dark and pretty hardcore." The album is slated for a Halloween 2012 release. Dani Filth revealed the titles of songs from the new album: "Siding with the Titans", "The Abhorrent", "Illicitus", "Frost on Her Pillow", "For Your Vulgar Delectation", "Death, the Great Adventure", "Manticore", "The Unveiling of O.", "Pallid Reflection" and "Huge Onyx Wings Behind Despair".

Genre

Cradle of Filth's particular subgenre has provoked a great deal of discussion, and their status as a black metal band or otherwise has been in debate since near the time that the group rose to fame Filth, in a 1998 interview for BBC Radio 5 for example, said "I use the term heavy metal, rather than black metal, because I think that's a bit of a fad now. Call it what you like: death metal, black metal, any kind of metal...", while Gavin Baddeley's 2006 Terrorizer interview states that "few folk, the band included, call Cradle black metal these days."
The band's style has been described as symphonic black metal, gothic black metal, and dark metal. However, the band's evolving sound has allowed them to continue resisting definitive categorisation. They are audibly influenced by Iron Maiden, have collaborated on projects like Christian Death's Born Again Anti-Christian album (on the track "Peek-A-Boo"), and have even dabbled outside of metal music with dance remixes ("Twisting Further Nails", "Pervert's Church" etc), although these have fallen by the wayside in recent years. In a 2006 interview with Terrorizer magazine, current guitarist Paul Allender said "We were never a black metal band. The only thing that catered to that was the make-up. Even when The Principle of Evil Made Flesh came out — you look at Emperor and Burzum and all that stuff — we didn't sound anything like that. The way that I see it is that we were, and still are now, an extreme metal band."
Appearing on the BBC music quiz Never Mind the Buzzcocks on April 9, 2001, Filth jokingly claimed Cradle's sound as "heavy funk", and in an October 2006 interview stated "we'd rather be known as solely 'Cradle of Filth', I think, than be hampered by stupid genre barriers.
